Image-guided Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (ESS)
ESS is a type of endoscopic surgery that uses imaging systems (STEALTH technology) to guide the surgeon and confirm the location of critical structures within the nose and sinuses.
Benefits of ESS
- Allows surgeons to remove more damaged tissue
- 3D imaging during surgery allows for more precision
- Beneficial for patients who have had previous sinus surgery or complicated nasal structures
Tumors and cerebrospinal fluid leaks involving the nose and sinuses are also sometimes approached using this technology.
What to Expect
Most patients go home the same day and without nasal packing. Expect mild bleeding for 1 to 2 days and general fatigue for 1 to 2 weeks.
