Pediatric ENT in Georgia
A child’s ENT needs differ from those of an adult. With this in mind, we take the time to educate and help you make informed decisions regarding your child’s care.
If surgery is necessary, our pediatric specialists perform surgery at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta; however, surgery can also be performed at Kennestone Hospital or Northside Hospital-Cherokee, as well as outpatient surgery centers in the greater Atlanta area.
For regular appointments, we offer compassionate care with state-of-the-art treatment options at our six convenient locations in Buckhead, Marietta, Woodstock, Canton, East Cobb, and Cartersville.
Does your child struggle with ear, nose or throat issues?
Our Pediatric ENT Services in Georgia
All our regular services are available to pediatric patients, and we also offer some specialty services that are exclusive to or particularly prevalent among children. This includes ear tubes, tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy, and tongue-tie and lip-tie procedures.
Ear Tubes
Ear tubes are tiny cylinders inserted into the eardrum to allow air to enter the middle ear. They are also also known as tympanostomy tubes or ventilation tubes. This is a common procedure performed on children with chronic middle ear infections, or an infection that does not go away despite treatment.
Ear tubes prevent the buildup of fluid behind the eardrum, reducing the risk of infection and improving hearing. The procedure is typically quick, lasts about 15 minutes, and is performed under general anesthesia to ensure your child's comfort.
Tonsils and Adenoids
A tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy (T&A) is a surgical procedure to remove the tonsils and adenoids in children. The tonsils are small glands on each side of the throat. The adenoids are a patch of tissue at the top of the throat behind the nose.
There are different reasons why an ENT might recommend a T&A. Enlarged tonsils and/or adenoids can cause breathing and swallowing problems in kids. Sometimes they also cause sleep-apnea-like symptoms, where your child snores loudly or their breathing stops and starts again repeatedly throughout the night. In other cases, recurrent infection of the tonsils and adenoids might warrant removal.
T&A is a quick procedure performed under general anesthesia. Your child can go home on the same day.
Tongue-Tie and Upper Lip Tie
Tongue-Tie (Ankyloglossia) is a condition where the lingual frenulum (the band of tissue at the base of your tongue that attaches to the floor of your mouth) is too short. This restricts the movement of the tongue. Upper Lip Tie is a similar condition, where a labial frenulum (which connects the upper lip to the gums) that is too short restricts upper lip movement. These conditions can cause speech and eating difficulties.
Tongue tie and upper lip tie can be addressed by clipping the affected frenulum. The procedure used depends on your child’s age, but it's fairly quick and performed on an outpatient basis.
