By: Dr. Mark McClinton

Did you know we see Dizzy patients too?

Dizziness is one of the most common complaints encountered by primary care and emergency room physicians. Unfortunately, the complaint of dizziness can actually mean several different symptoms, including lightheadedness, unsteadiness, giddiness or feeling of being off balance. Dizziness can be a symptom of all sorts of disorders. Various disorders and conditions include:Dizzy Person

  • Vestibular disorders, or problems in the inner ear
  • Disorders in the central nervous system, the brainstem or brain
  • Cardiovascular problems such as high blood pressure or anemia
  • Infection, either bacterial or viral
  • Reaction to medication

Fortunately, the majority of the problems leading to dizziness are fairly easy to treat. But arriving at an accurate diagnosis is imperative. Since the cause of dizziness can be potentially complex, patients are often advised to see an otolaryngologist, or Ear, Nose and Throat doctor. To learn more about Dizziness, read up on our treatment page dedicated to the evaluation and treatment of vertigo/dizziness.
