Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS)

FESS is a minimally invasive surgical technique that uses endoscopic tools to treat complicated acute or chronic sinus infections.

The goal of FESS is to reestablish physiologically normal sinus drainage pathways by removing or correcting diseased pieces of tissues in key areas of sinus obstruction.

Benefits of FESS

  • Less invasive (surgeon goes in through the nostril)
  • Less bleeding and pain
  • Shorter recovery time

What to Expect

After surgery, your nose might be a bit stuffy and achy. You may have a dressing under your nose (nasal packing) for the first 24-48 hours.

For some, antibiotics are necessary and the sinus cavity should be fully healed in 3-4 weeks.
