In children, head and neck masses are most often benign; however, these lumps may come from a range of underlying causes, including lymph nodes, cysts, or cancerous growths.
Benign head and neck masses in children often represent inflamed or infected lymph nodes and fluid-filled cysts. Depending on the type and location of mass, it may resolve on its own, or with antibiotics, while others may require surgical removal.
