Our physicians specialize in otolaryngology. We provide comprehensive, state-of-the-art care in the metro Atlanta area with six locations including: Buckhead, Canton, Cartersville, Marietta, Windy Hill and Woodstock. We routinely evaluate and treat patients of all ages for a wide range of conditions involving the ear, nose, throat, head and neck.

All physicians are board certified / eligible by the American Board of Otolaryngology.
Meet our Physicians
Drew M. Locandro, M.D.
Originally from New Jersey, Dr. Drew M. Locandro received his undergraduate degree from Rutgers University. He attended Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in Piscataway, New Jersey, where he specialized in otolaryngology and completed his residency at the Albany Medical Center in Albany, New York.
Dr. Locandro has extensive experience with common ENT procedures and special expertise with nasal/sinus surgery, cosmetic nasal surgery, and advanced ear surgery. He is certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology and is also a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery.
Shatul L. Parikh, M.D.
Dr. Shatul Parikh, a native Atlantan, received his undergraduate degree from Emory University, and completed his medical studies at Georgia Regents University in Augusta, Georgia. Dr. Parikh returned to Emory University to complete his residency in Otolaryngology.
Dr. Parikh is a nationally recognized expert in minimally invasive thyroid/parathyroid surgery. Currently an instructor for the American Board of Otolaryngology, Dr. Parikh teaches other surgeons advanced techniques in thyroid/parathyroid surgery. He is also experienced in all routine ENT procedures.
Dr. Parikh is certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology and is also a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. He is also the medical director of Northwest ENT Surgery Center.
Ryan M. Kauffman, M.D.
Dr. Kauffman specializes in allergy, nasal surgery, endoscopic sinus surgery, chronic ear surgery, and pediatric otolaryngology. He was born and raised in Carrollton, Georgia, received his undergraduate degree from the University of West Georgia, attended medical school at Vanderbilt University, and completed his residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Avani P. Ingley, M.D.
Dr. Avani Ingley grew up in Vidalia, Georgia, and received her undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia. She completed her medical studies and residency in Otolaryngology at Emory University in Atlanta. Additionally, she was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha, one of the nation’s most prestigious medical honor societies.
Dr. Ingley has experience in all routine ENT procedures with special interest in pediatric otolaryngology and nasal/sinus surgery. She is certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology and is also a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery.
Mark E. McClinton M.D.
Dr. Mark McClinton began his medical studies in 1990 at the Tulane University School of Medicine. Upon graduating, the Seattle native returned home for a surgical internship at Virginia Mason Medical Center, then immediately entered the U.S. Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine. After his completion of the program, he became an Air Force Flight Surgeon at Pope Air Force Base in Fayetteville, North Carolina where he was assigned to an A-10 squadron and deployed twice to Kuwait as director of base medical services.
Upon returning home in 1998, he completed his residency training at the University of Miami-Jackson Memorial Hospital. Dr. McClinton has experience in all routine ENT procedures with special interest in otology and pediatric otolaryngology.
Dr. McClinton is certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology and is also a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery.
Marcelo Antunes, M.D
Originally from Brazil, Dr. Marcelo Antunes completed his residency in Otorhinolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia. In addition, he completed a Fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY, as well as ear surgery training in Switzerland. Dr. Antunes is well trained in all aspects of Otolaryngology ¬ Head & Neck Surgery and Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
In addition to performing cosmetic and reconstructive surgery on the face, he enjoys treating patients with a variety of problems such as nasal obstruction, sinus, allergy and ear conditions. He has extensive training in rhinoplasty, facelift, eyelid, reconstructive, sinus and ear procedures. During his residency, he trained and performed highly complicated procedures with the pioneer in sinus surgery in the United States. He is also well-versed in chronic ear infection and cochlear implant surgeries.
Dr Antunes is board certified in Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery and is an active member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery and the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

Deborah M. Burton M.D.
Undergraduate: University of Delaware.
Medical School: Temple University Medical School.
Residency: Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
Fellowship: San Diego Children’s Hospital and Health Center.
Dr. Deborah M. Burton earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Delaware and her medical degree from Temple University Medical School, where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. She interned at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, completed a residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and then a fellowship in pediatric otolaryngology at Children’s Hospital and Health Center in San Diego, California.
Dr. B is certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology and is a fellow of American Academy of Otolaryngology and the American American Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology. She is on the staff at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and Wellstar Windy Hill Hospital.
Dr. Burton has lived in Atlanta with her husband since 1995 and has two daughters who attend Georgia Tech. She enjoys reading, and traveling and aspires to one be a children’s book author.

Mark B. Van Deusen M.D.
Dr. Mark Van Deusen grew in upstate NY. He graduated from Binghamton University summa cum laude and attended medical school at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY. He went on to graduate with honors before heading south to pursue his residency training in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN.
Dr. Van Deusen is trained in all aspects of Otolaryngology, and his passion for practicing is evident in his many interests. He enjoys treating patients with sinus disease, nasal obstruction, and allergies. When medical management fails, Dr. Van Deusen is skilled in endoscopic sinus surgery, septoplasty, and rhinoplasty techniques. During his training, Dr. Van Deusen performed endoscopic trans-sphenoidal pituitary surgery as part of a multi-disciplinary team at the Vanderbilt Skull Base Center. He will be providing this service at Piedmont Hospital in conjunction with neurosurgery. His scope of practice also includes caring for patients with ear disease and hearing loss. He is extensively trained in ear surgery and offers cochlear implantation for children and adults with significant sensorineural hearing loss. Dr. Van Deusen enjoys treating children and has received specialized training in pediatric Otolaryngology at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital. Lastly, he is trained in head and neck surgical oncology and works with radiation and medical oncologists to treat cancer patients.
Dr. Van Deusen makes every effort to accommodate his patients and their busy schedules. In most cases, he is able to take same day appointments.
Dr. Van Deusen met his wife, Liz, in medical school. They recently welcomed their first child, Brady, into the world! When not working, he enjoys running, playing golf, enjoying the outdoors, and spending time with friends and family.
Meet our Audiologists
Geralyn Drumheller, Au.D
Dr. Geralyn Drumheller, Director of Audiology, received her Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Disorders from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, MA. She was awarded her Master of Education degree in Audiology from Northeastern University in Boston, MA and her doctorate in Audiology from the Arizona School of Health Sciences.
Dr. Drumheller began her audiology career at the Lahey Clinic, outside of Boston, and became the Director of Audiology in 1987. She was appointed to the Board of Registration for Speech Pathology and Audiology for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and served as Chairperson. She expanded her hearing aid dispensing services by joining American Hearing Centers as Senior Audiologist in the greater Boston area, and continued with her relocation to the Atlanta area joining Atlanta Ear, Nose and Throat Associates. More recently, she was employed by a world leader in hearing aid manufacturing as Supervisor of Audiology and Customer Care here in Georgia.
Dr. Drumheller is a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology and Past-President of the Georgia Academy of Audiology.
Kathryn “Katie” Brown, Au.D., CCC-A, F-AAA
Dr. Katie Brown is an Alabama native. She joined Northwest Audiology in August 2010. Dr. Brown obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences in 2004 from the University of South Alabama (USA). After that, she received her Doctorate of Audiology degree from USA in 2008. Her interests include serving the hearing healthcare needs of all populations, specifically, the diagnosis and management of hearing loss in adults, including hearing aid dispensing and rehabilitation. She also specializes in balance disorder testing. She has her clinical certificate of competence from the American Speech Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) and is a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology (AAA).
Karen Burris Whitfield, Au.D.
A Marietta, Georgia native, Dr. Karen Whitfield earned both her undergraduate degree and Master’s degree from the University of Georgia. After receiving her M.S. in Speech Language Pathology and Audiology, she went on to earn her Doctorate in Communication Sciences and Disorders at the Arizona School of Health Sciences.
For 15 years, Dr. Whitfield owned and managed a private practice in Leesburg, Georgia, that specialized in Clinical Audiology, Industrial Noise Engineering, and hearing aids for the adult and pediatric population. She was also previously employed by the Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital’s Neurodiagnostics Department and the UGA Hearing Aid Clinic.
Dr. Whitfield is a Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology, and holds a Certificate of Clinical Competency from the American Speech-Language Association. She was also a member of the Georgia State Licensing Board for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology from 1992 to 2000.
Stacy Pickelman, Au.D.
After Dr. Stacy Pickelman received her Bachelor of Science in Communication Disorders from Central Michigan University, she went on to earn her Doctorate in Audiology from CMU in 2010. Dr. Pickelman is originally from Michigan and has most recently moved from San Francisco to Atlanta in 2012. She has her clinical competency (CCC-A) with the American Speech-Pathology and Hearing Association (ASHA) and is a fellow with the American Audiology Association (AAA). She is currently serving on the board and is a member of the Georgia Academy of Audiology (GAA). Dr. Pickelman is passionate about serving others and enjoys working with all patient populations.
Kristen King, Au.D.
Dr. Kristen King received both her undergraduate and graduate degree from the University of Georgia and her Doctorate in Audiology from A.T. Still University of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona. She has 14 years of experience in testing and treating patients of all ages, from pediatrics to seniors, and enjoys being able to help people through her profession. Dr. King is currently a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology.
Cindy Weiss, M.S.
Dr. Cindy Weiss received her Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology form the State University of Cortland in Cortland, NY. She was awarded her Masters of Science degree in Audiology from Northeastern University in Boston, MA. Dr. Weiss has worked for many years in hospital, private practice and ENT settings in New York and in Georgia. She has worked with the pediatric through the geriatric population. Dr. Weiss is passionate in providing superior hearing healthcare services and products to her patients and their families. She currently is a member of the American Academy of Audiology and the Georgia Academy of Audiology.
Meet our Administration
Carlos M. Egea, Administrator
Carlos M. Egea, MBA, MHA, Administrator received his Bachelor of Liberal Arts, Master of Business Administration and Master of Healthcare Administration from the University of Florida. Carlos began his career at The Eye Center at Shands Hospital in 1991. In 1996, after completing his graduate studies, Carlos moved to New York and began working as a Practice Development Consultant for New York Hospital MSO and later became the Director of Reimbursement Services for Millennium Practice Services. In 2004, Carlos began working with McKesson Healthcare as a Director of Billing, Documentation and Medical Records for a DME division in southern New Jersey.
From 2005 to 2007, Carlos also served as a consultant on the Medicare DMAC Advisory Committee for DMEPOS, where he worked to audit benefits management protocols for the Northeast Medicare region.
In 2011, Carlos relocated to the Atlanta metro area and joined Northwest ENT. Carlos is a member of the Association of Otolaryngology Administrators and the Medical Group Management Association.
